सत्येन्द्रनाथ टैगोर ने 1863 में भारतीय सिविल सेवा (ICS) की परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की और 1864 में सेवा में शामिल हुए।

ICS and IAS: The Important Distinction

Tagore entered the colonial Indian Civil Service. Calling his 1863 achievement a UPSC Civil Services Examination result or an IAS batch mixes different periods of Indian administrative history. A historical ICS examination should not be presented using modern UPSC ranks, optional subjects, marksheets or coaching recommendations.

Satyendranath Tagore’s Civil Service Journey

A Government of India account records that he travelled from Calcutta to England in 1862 to take the examination. He qualified the following year and entered service in 1864. His achievement is an early milestone in Indian participation in the civil services.

How UPSC Aspirants Can Study This Topic

Keep a short chronology of administrative institutions alongside your modern Indian history notes. Separate an examination’s founding date, a candidate’s selection year and the year they entered service. This helps prevent errors when answering questions about institutional development.

When reading a biography, ask which examination, service and political period it describes. A present-day booklist cannot establish how a nineteenth-century candidate prepared. Use historical sources for the biography and the current UPSC notification for today’s examination rules.
